Introducing

3D Print-Knit Maskº 2.0

Now in its second generation, 3D Print-Knit Maskº 2.0 is made of washable fabric, contains a pocket in which a single-use filtration membrane can be easily inserted, and comes in a range of colors. It’s engineered to work with our custom BFE≥95% rated filters (sold separately). Together we can work to promote public health, and flatten the curve.

Science for Better

March 27, 2020

As a company grounded in “Science for Better” we recognize that the situation created by the COVID-19 pandemic demands swift action. To that end, we have donated several thousands of masks to assist medical professionals and front-line workers during this public health crisis.

And, there’s more to the story…

A few years ago, we started 3D printing clothing -- some even on-site in our Boston store. We learned a lot, both about the nature of fabric design and the beauty of rapid prototyping and agile manufacturing. So when this pandemic began creating shortages in personal protective equipment, we jumped right in and started collaborating with doctors, nurses, engineers, and our partners at Nimbly Made to help develop a solution.

We designed, developed, and shifted capacity and budget - working with our partners to procure thousands of face masks, and working to design and manufacture Masks° using 3D Print-Knit technology and featuring a pocket for a replaceable filtration membrane.

We’re sharing this publicly for two reasons:

  1. We need your help to procedure, produce and deliver masks - this is a challenging time, but we put everything we could into this project, with several thousand masks already donated. The simple act of continuing to shop with us helps to fund our mask initiatives.

  2. If you think you might be able to help more directly - donations, producing masks, anything - just call or email and we’ll fill you in.

Thanks for all of your support so far. Stay safe,
Gihan + the team at Ministry of Supply

Through your donations and our 2% contribution of each sale in Q2, we’ve donated over 40,000 masks and counting to the Boston Medical Center and other healthcare providers.

Through your support and donations we’ve been able to produce and procure over 40,000 Face Masks, N95-Equivalent Respirators, and our own Maskº.

3D Print-Knit

The 3D Print-Knit process is ideal for rapid prototyping and on-demand production. A single Mask°can be knit in under 9 minutes, with 3D shaping to create structures for the mouth and nose.

Effective Filtration

Mask° utilizes replaceable BFE 95-certified filters that are rated using the ASTM 2101–19 standard, the same material used in procedural masks.

Washable and Reusable

Mask° is designed to be machine-washable, and reusable once the filtration membrane is replaced.

Flatten the Curve

Experts agree - Even if you’re not experiencing symptoms, higher public usage of face masks dramatically lowers the rate of transmission and “flattens the curve”.

Disclaimer:

The CDC recommends that the public wear face coverings and masks. Ministry of Supply face masks are not devices intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions or in the cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease and do not meet the definition of a medical device as set forth in section 201(h) of the FD&C Act. The Ministry of Supply masks are non-medical masks and are not N95 respirators or surgical masks - such materials should continue to be reserved for front-line healthcare professionals.
